It’s a rampant practice followed by so called web designers to register their client’s domain names with their (web designers and not clients) own details. This is a complete lose-lose situation for clients. Most of the time clients thinks they have the total control of their domain name while the designer fool him with giving just hosting (FTP) controls.

Put client’s detail on your website under a defaulter’s list and write all circumstances there. May be the client feels sudden change of heart and agrees to pay you.
